The California Independent System Operator (California ISO) continues to deal with record electricity usage -- the amount of growth forecast to appear five years from now. Today, July 24, 2006 another record peak was set at 50,270 megawatts at 2:44 pm. This breaks the record of 49,036 megawatts set just last Friday, July 21. Stage One and Two Emergencies were called today in order to meet this record demand.
Conservation is making a difference and the California ISO would like to thank consumers as well as participants of the ISO Voluntary Load Reduction Program and the utilities’ Interruptible customers – all of which contributed greatly to today’s ability to keep the lights on.
