Summary:  The ISO-RTO Council (IRC) is hosting a Demand Response Technical Conference on April 21, 2008 at the Crystal City Hilton in Arlington, V irginia.  The meeting is open to all interested industry participants.

Main Text:  The Independent System Operators (ISOs) and Regional Transmission Operator (RTOs) that operate wholesale electricity markets in North America, working together through the ISO-RTO Council (IRC), are sponsoring a day-long technical conference to receive industry comments on two IRC initiatives to advance the participation of Demand Response in wholesale electricity markets. This conference is especially timely in light of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) recent Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that includes a number of Demand Response provisions.

 

The conference will have two sessions; one on the joint IRC/North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) initiative to meet national standards for measurement and verification of demand response programs and resources, and another session on the development of standardized communication protocols and possible North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards to make it easier for small demand resources to participate in the energy and ancillary services markets.  Federal Energy Regulatory Commissioner Jon Wellinghoff will give the keynote address to open the conference.  A final agenda, including panelists, will be distributed later in March.
