Charles King joined the California Independent System Operator Corporation (California ISO) as Vice President of Market Development and Program Management in 2005. As such he was responsible for oversight of the development of market and product enhancements as well as implementation of the Market Redesign and Technology Upgrade (MRTU) program – a series of comprehensive improvements to California ISO markets and operations. MRTU is slated for implementation in 2008 and will improve the design of the daily energy markets used to fine-tune the flow of electricity while also updating the ISO technology infrastructure. In March 2008, Mr. King assumed a new advisory position to the California ISO Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. King has 20 years of experience at the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) and its predecessor, the New York Power Pool. Mr. King is credited with driving the design and development of the market structure and rules for the initial implementation of New York’s competitive wholesale market. He was most recently Vice President of Market Services at the NYISO.
Mr. King also held professional positions at New England Electric System, Narragansett Electric Company in Providence, Rhode Island, and at Black & Decker. He earned Bachelor and Master degrees in Electric Power Engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. Mr. King is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of New York.
