MRTU Transition to Parallel Operation Simulation

As of this week, MRTU simulation activities focus on parallel operations, which encompasses the three months leading up to go live on March 31, 2009.  The ISO created a new MRTU page to notice meetings and provide information related to parallel operations.

Main Text

As of this week, Market Redesign and Technology Upgrade (MRTU) simulation activities focus on parallel operations, which encompasses the three months leading up to MRTU go live on March 31, 2009 and includes:

• System operations tests (open loop tests, partial closed loop tests, etc.)
• Grid operations training scenarios
• Pre-production, which begins at T-30 days or March 1
• Cutover, which begins at T-15 days or March 15

 

A schedule and description of planned activities will be provided within the MRTU Parallel Operations Simulation Test Supplement to be published later this week.

 

The California ISO (the ISO) created a new MRTU page to notice meetings and provide information related to parallel operations.  The MRTU Parallel Operation Simulation page is at:  http://www.caiso.com/20ad/20adba2452b30.html.

 

Additionally, the ISO is making several changes to the MRTU meeting and reporting routines.  Going forward market participants can expect the following:

 

Participant Meetings:

• Touchpoint calls will be hosted on Tuesdays at 9:00 am to review system availability and issues.
• User Group teleconferences will continue, with the Systems Interface User Group (SIUG) on Tuesdays at 11:00 am and the Settlements & Market Clearing (SaMC) on Wednesdays at 10:00 am.
• Implementation Workshops will continue on a monthly basis.  Meetings are currently calendared for:  January 22, February 19 and March 19.
• Operational calls will be hosted by ISO Grid Operators as needed to review the testing schedules and participant involvement.

 

Regular Reports:

1. Charge Code Status Report (daily)
2. Issues Report (daily & weekly)
3. Market Watch Report (daily)
4. Real-Time Data Exchange Report (daily)

 

On-going Support:

• ISO grid operators will provide operational support 24/7, using the MRTU market notification system to provide system availability updates and testing notifications.

• The Market Simulation Team is available 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on week days for non-operational inquiries.

• The ISO will continue to send email updates to communicate timely information in support of parallel operations.
