Earlier today, the California ISO suspended the ability of all Scheduling Coordinators to submit virtual bids for trading day Aug. 22, 2020, pursuant to Section 7.9 of the ISO tariff. As a result of the record breaking heat wave that has led to load curtailments, the ISO determined that convergence bidding is detrimentally affecting the ISO’s ability to maintain reliable grid operations.
However, based on more recent information regarding expected loads and the possibility of load curtailments, the ISO is terminating the suspension of convergence bidding and is accepting virtual demand and supply bids from all Scheduling Coordinators for trading day Aug. 22, 2020.
The ISO may suspend the ability to submit virtual bids for subsequent trading days. The ISO will issue a notice to inform Scheduling Coordinators of future suspensions.
