The California ISO has scheduled a stakeholder call on May 18, 2021, to discuss the potential designation of the Agnews Power Plant (28.56 MW) as Reliability Must-Run Unit.
In a letter dated Nov. 20, 2020, the O.L.S. Energy-Agnews, Inc. notified the ISO of its intention to retire the plant on Nov. 1, 2021, and repower the site. The ISO has undertaken the necessary studies to confirm that the absence of this unit would not create unacceptable reliability impacts. The ISO’s analysis has indicated that the generator is required in order to meet the relevant criteria for reliable system operation in the highly constrained San Jose local sub-area, part of the Bay Area local area. For additional information, please see the final 2022 Local Capacity Technical report, available at
http://www.caiso.com/InitiativeDocuments/Final2022LocalCapacityTechnicalReport.pdf.
During the call, the ISO will discuss the study findings and its proposed path forward, in anticipation of seeking a decision at the July 14-15, 2021 Board of Governors meeting.
A presentation will be available prior to the call on the miscellaneous stakeholder meetings webpage at http://www.caiso.com/informed/Pages/MeetingsEvents/MiscellaneousStakeholderMeetings/Default.aspx.
Please submit written comments to regionaltransmission@caiso.com by end of day June 1, 2021.
