According to Section 4.7 of the Transmission Control Agreement (TCA), the California ISO provides notice that it intends to relinquish operational control over the Cambria-Perry 70kV transmission facilities as requested by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). The Cayucos-Cambria 70kV Transmission Line is 18-miles long and under the ISO’s Operational Control. The line connects Cambria, Perry, and Cayucos substations in northwest San Luis Obispo County. Due to transformer health, civil, and environmental assessments, Cambria Substation will be removed from its location. The customer load, previously served by Cambria Substation, will be transferred to Perry Substation. In addition, as part of the project, the line section between Perry Substation and Cambria Substation will be converted from a 70kV line to 12kV distribution line, while the line section between Cayucos Substation to Perry Substation will remain as is and shall be renamed Cayucos-Perry 70kV Line. The target project completion date is December 2023.
The ISO, in consultation with PG&E, has determined that it no longer requires operational control over the Cambria-Perry 70kV Transmission Line to fulfill its Balancing Authority Area responsibilities. This determination was made because the Cambria-Perry 70kV line is being repurposed as a 12kV circuit and qualifies to be classified as a local distribution facility (see Section 4.7.1(ii) of the TCA.)
Interested parties have 45 days (no later than Oct. 30, 2023) within which to submit written objections to the proposed removal to Riddhi Ray at rray@caiso.com with a cc to RegulatoryContracts@caiso.com. The ISO will then respond to any objections and post the response on the ISO website in accordance with Section 4.7.2 of the TCA.
