Eric Schmitt

Vice President, Operations

Eric Schmitt is Vice President, Operations at the California Independent System Operator Corporation (ISO), where he is responsible for California’s bulk electric system operations, real-time engineering and market services. Mr. Schmitt has more than 35 years in the power industry with a unique blend of experience in operations, engineering, technology, business and environmental program management.

Prior to joining California ISO, Mr. Schmitt served as Senior Vice President at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), based in McLean, VA. Mr. Schmitt also held leadership positions with Capgemini Americas where he served as Global Power Center of Excellence Leader. Other prior positions include Director, Technology Strategy and Planning for Dallas-based TXU (now Luminant) and an array of technical and management positions at TU Electric, Texas Utilities Engineering, Texas Utilities Power Generation, and Florida Power & Light.

Over his career, Mr. Schmitt has held a variety of technical and management positions within the industry, including significant roles in electricity production, operations, technical support, environmental, chemistry, training, quality assurance, information technology, technology and governance. He also has consulted at various power stations Worldwide, assisting clients with operations, engineering, business process and technology challenges.

Mr. Schmitt’s education includes a Master's of Business Administration from University of Texas and a Master's of Environmental Science from Florida Institute of Technology. He earned a Bachelor's of Science from University of Notre Dame.
