Metering and telemetry ensure operational accuracy

Accurate metering of electricity generated or consumed provides key data inputs for accurate settlement calculations. Direct measurement of a generator or load participant through telemetry allows the ISO to manage and monitor power generation in real-time.

Metering process and requirements

Meter data represents the energy generated or consumed during a settlement interval. The ISO, ISO metered entities, and scheduling coordinator metered entities follow prescribed processes and procedures to ensure the data is settlement quality.

ISO Tariff

Section 10 of the ISO Tariff deals with the submission of revenue quality meter data for use in settlements and billings.

Metering guidelines

Guidelines for metering certification of prospective ISO metered entities that wish to participate in the ISO market. These guidelines complement, but do not replace, section 10 of the ISO Tariff or the Business Practice Manual for Metering.

Meter installation, inspection and certification

Technical information and requirements for ISO Metered Entities

Meter data submission and reporting

Specifications for submitting and retrieving meter data and instructions using the Operational Meter Analysis and Reporting (OMAR) system.

Direct telemetry process and requirements

The ISO requires direct telemetry of participating generators and load by installing a remote intelligent gateway (RIG) for generating units providing regulation energy or a data processing gateway (DPG) or other ISO-approved technology for resources providing non-regulation ancillary services or supplemental energy.
