Nancy Saracino

Nancy Saracino joined the California Independent System Operator Corporation (California ISO) as Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary in May of 2007.  Ms. Saracino serves as the chief legal officer and representative for the Corporation in legal and regulatory matters and compliance issues. She also advises the Board of Governors on the application of federal, state and local law to matters under consideration by the Board, and is responsible for providing guidance and advice on governance and corporate issues. Ms. Saracino also oversees the Legal and Regulatory Department. 

Ms. Saracino came to the California ISO from the California Department of Water Resources (DWR).  Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Ms. Saracino as DWR Chief Counsel in August 2004, and then as DWR Chief Deputy Director in June 2006.  As Chief Deputy, Ms. Saracino was responsible for assisting the Director in overseeing the supervision and management of the Department and for developing and implementing policy for the protection, conservation and management of the state water supply.

Prior to joining DWR, Ms. Saracino worked at the Attorney General’s (AG) Office as a Supervising Deputy Attorney General on the Energy Task Force, representing the State of California, DWR and the Governor’s Office in litigation relating to the 2000-2001 energy crisis. In December 2003, she began working as the lead negotiator for the Governor’s Office in efforts to restructure DWR’s long-term energy contracts.

Ms. Saracino was a partner at Mennemeier, Glassman & Stroud before she joined the AG’s Office, representing public and private clients in a range of areas from water law to employment litigation. She started her legal career as an associate at Kronick, Moskovitz, Tiedemann & Girard.

In 2006, Ms. Saracino participated in the National Leadership Summits for a Sustainable America, established to review the nation’s sustainable development goals in light of the effects of climate change and develop a five-year action plan.  She also served as a steering committee member for the California Sustainability Alliance.  Ms. Saracino earned her law degree from King Hall School of Law at U.C. Davis, and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics, also from U.C. Davis.
