Frequency response phase 2

This initiative will evaluate designing a primary frequency response procurement and compensation mechanism to ensure sufficient levels of primary frequency response are provided in response to frequency disturbances. This procurement mechanism would purchase primary frequency response service, which would require automatic provision of additional power to arrest and stabilize frequency within fifty-two seconds.

Initiative status

The ISO has suspended this initiative to focus resources on day-ahead market improvements and expansion of the day-ahead market to include Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) participants. The ISO plans to address in 2020 frequency response and regulation products, and improvements to current products.
