The California Energy Commission and the Governor's Office will host a Friday, May 6, 2016 Lead Commissioner workshop on considerations for the development of a governance structure for a regional grid operator. This workshop will provide a public discussion of modifications to the California ISO's governance needed to facilitate the transition to a regional organization, while protecting California's environmental and energy policies.



Main Text

The California Energy Commission and the Governor's Office will host a Lead Commissioner workshop on considerations for the development of a governance structure for a regional grid operator. The Regional Grid Operator and Governance workshop is intended to provide a public discussion of various governance proposals to accomplish the transformation of the California ISO into a regional grid operator, while safeguarding state environmental and energy policies.


An agenda will be posted prior to the workshop on the CEC website at . The topics to be addressed may include, but are not limited to:



Background on the California ISO governance and corporate framework


Summary of Midcontinent ISO's governance structure, including filing rights at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission


Roundtable of experts to comment on relevant papers and studies


Western states and stakeholders are invited to comment on key principles of regional grid operator governance. Oral and written comments, attachments, and associated contact information included within the written comments and attachments (e.g., your address, phone, email, etc.) will become part of the viewable public record and this stakeholder process.


CEC staff will accept oral and written comments during the workshop. Oral comments may be limited to three minutes. The Energy Commission may not have time to review written comments before the conclusion of the workshop.
