The California ISO is providing stakeholders with updates related to the Resource Adequacy and Program Design (RAMPD) working group, including the announcement of a new working group facilitator and an updated meeting schedule. In addition, a Market Surveillance Committee (MSC) meeting to discuss resource adequacy has been scheduled for Friday, Feb. 23, 2024.
We want to congratulate and thank Jeff McDonald, who will be leaving Concentric and his role as the ISO’s RAMPD facilitator to accept a new opportunity in the wholesale electric industry. Jeff has made significant contributions to the success of this effort, and the ISO thanks him for his hard work, commitment, and positive impact.
The ISO is pleased to announce that Danielle Powers, Chief Executive Officer at Concentric, will be taking over Jeff’s facilitation role. Danielle brings a wealth of experience in capacity market design and operations across North America and has worked with stakeholder groups in ISO New England on numerous capacity-market related efforts. We are confident that Danielle will contribute to the continued success of this effort.
Prior to Jeff’s departure from his role as the RAMPD working group facilitator, he drafted his recommendations of what was ready for the working group’s action plan. Those recommendations will be discussed during the next working group meeting on March 13, 2024.
The ISO has also made changes to the RAMPD working group schedule. The February 27 working group meeting has been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. The upcoming working group schedule is as follows:
- March 13, 2024 (Hybrid)
- April 25, 2024 (Hybrid)
Attendees may choose to participate in person at the ISO, or virtually. If you plan to attend the March 13 meeting in person, please register by end of day March 6.
The March 13 working group meeting will focus on 1) an overall review of modeling, and 2) a deep-dive review of planed and forced outage and availability incentives.
An agenda and presentation will be available prior to the working group meeting on the initiative webpage.
The working group meeting will be recorded and the video file posted on the initiative webpage for a limited time. The recording is for informational convenience purposes only, and any related transcriptions should not be reprinted without the ISO’s permission.
The ISO also encourages RAMPD working group participants to attend the Market Surveillance Committee (MSC) teleconference meeting this Friday, Feb. 23, 2024. The MSC, an advisory committee to the ISO Board of Governors and ISO Management, will discuss tradeoffs between capacity accounting, planning reserve margins, and availability and performance incentives.
