The California ISO changes to Automated Dispatch System (ADS) Partial Acceptance functionality and User Interface (UI) are scheduled for implementation in Production on Nov. 15, 2023.
The ADS Partial Acceptance functionality allows users to partially accept the hourly pre-dispatch instructions for the specified megawatt (MW) amount. Both the ADS UI and Application Programming Interface (API) allow this partial acceptance functionality during the user response window.
ADS Partial Acceptance Functionality Change
- Summary
- Before the change, ADS is capping the partial acceptance MW value at Hourly MW threshold value/Residual Unit Commitment (RUC) schedule
- After the change, ADS will cap the partial acceptance MW value at the Hourly Dispatch Operating Target (DOT) value.
- Both ADS UI and API will allow users to use partial MW value between 0 and Hourly DOT value.
- On the ADS UI, the user will receive a pop up display error message for the MW value above the acceptable range.
- There is no API interface change and current API method “partialAcceptInstruction” continue to work without any change from the users.
- API users are requested to make sure that partialAcceptInstruction > acceptDOT value is between 0 and Hourly DOT value.
- For MW value above the acceptable range, API response will be RC_INVALID_RESPONSE. (Integer Value 1)
- ADS UI Change
- There will be a UI display column title change
- The column display title for “Hourly MW Threshold” is renamed as “RUC Schedule” in both main display grids and the ADS query tool display.
- There is no change in the API service. The response element in the API service continues to refer to hourlyMwThreshold.
ADS Technical Specification Version 8.4.1 is available for the documentation update for these changes.

- Restricting Partial Accept DOT value to be between 0 and Hourly DOT.
- Change to ADS UI Interface
- Change the column name “Hourly MW Threshold” to “RUC Schedule”
