Tonight, the California ISO will add two new hybrid charts on its Today’s Outlook and ISO Today mobile app. The charts will display total hybrid resource output, and a breakdown of hybrid component generation.
This is part of the Hybrid Resources initiative launched in 2019 to explore the best ways to register and configure hybrids to operate in the ISO market.
Prior to today, the Batteries trend graph on caiso.com’s Today’s Outlook and the ISO Today mobile app displayed both stand-alone battery storage and hybrids, including the renewable components, such as wind and solar.
Beginning Feb 1, 2023, the majority of hybrid resources previously included in the Batteries trend chart moved to the Hybrids trend charts on Today’s Outlook and the ISO Today mobile app. The remaining hybrid resources will transition to the Hybrids trend chart as they meet the telemetry requirements to transfer to the new system of registration and configuration.
Until the transition is complete, battery data will not be fully accurate. Because of the new configuration, data from before and after Feb. 1, 2023 will not be comparable. There is no firm timeline for completion of the changeover.
The update will occur from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today, Feb.6, and the performance of Today’s Outlook and the mobile app may be impacted.
The new Hybrids trend chart will show the type and amount of energy provided by hybrid resources, in five-minute increments for each day. A pie chart will also show the percentage of hybrid generation for each type of fuel, as well as the percentage of demand served by hybrid resources. Co-located resources will remain displayed in the Supply and Renewables trend graphs within their corresponding fuel types.
