In June 2021, the California ISO launched a new initiative called Planning Standards - Remedial Action Scheme (RAS) Guidelines Update and held the first public stakeholder call on June 24, 2021, to discuss the issue paper. During its development of the straw proposal for this initiative, the ISO discovered that additional research is needed to evaluate the interaction between the RAS and the Generator Contingency & RAS Modeling (GCARM) in the market. This research is multidisciplinary within the ISO and is expected to last into the 2022 timeframe.
The ISO does not have a definitive schedule for the initiative at this time, but will inform stakeholders when this initiative resumes through a future notice.
