The CPUC and the ISO have issued a joint staff report discussing Multiple-Use Applications (MUA) for energy storage resources, as part of the CPUC’s energy storage Order Instituting Rulemaking 15-03-011, Track 2. A joint workshop is scheduled at the CPUC on Friday, June 2 to discuss the report. MUA is a current topic within the ISO’s Energy Storage and Distributed Energy Resources Phase 2 (ESDER2) initiative, and stakeholders are encouraged to attend the workshop. The CPUC is requesting that comments to the report be submitted by June 16. Reply comments are due June 23.
Previously, a CPUC-ISO joint workshop on May 2, 2016 discussed energy storage topics, including MUA, in common between the CPUC's energy storage Order Instituting Rulemaking 15-03-011 and the California ISO’s ESDER2 initiative. Based on input received at the May 2 workshop as well as subsequent comments and reply comments, the latest joint report proposes a framework for addressing multiple-use application issues.
The CPUC-ISO joint staff report and materials are available on the CPUC website at http://docs.cpuc.ca.gov/SearchRes.aspx?docformat=ALL&docid=187237488.
The workshop agenda is available on the ISO website at http://www.caiso.com/informed/Pages/StakeholderProcesses/EnergyStorage_DistributedEnergyResourcesPhase2.aspx.
