The California ISO will hold a public stakeholder call on Market Enhancements for Summer 2021 Readiness on Jan. 6, 2021, to review the scope and schedule for this initiative.

This initiative will focus on near term efforts necessary to enhance market rules and procedures to help ensure grid reliability in summer 2021 in light of summer 2020 conditions. A number of the scope items the ISO will summarize on the January 6 call are in response to stakeholder comments submitted on the penalty prices and scheduling priorities meeting held on Nov. 20, 2020.

The urgency of these changes necessitates an expedited stakeholder process to ensure these changes are in place by next summer. Therefore, this and any proposed tariff changes will be taken for approval to the March 2021 Western Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) Governing Body and the California ISO Board of Governors meetings, as appropriate.

In conjunction with this initiative, the ISO will also host workshops on Jan. 12-13, 2021, to discuss export and load scheduling priorities, and the Western EIM Resource Sufficiency Evaluation, respectively. We invite stakeholders to present during the workshops their feedback on how Balancing Authority Areas (BAAs) in the Western Electricity Coordinating Council treat exports, as well as suggestions or proposed enhancements for consideration in the Resource Sufficiency Evaluation.
