The California ISO has posted on its website detailed resource outage information ranging from August 13 through August 16, 2020, which covers the August heat wave period and the emergency declaration that occurred on August 14 and 15 that resulted in load shed.
Out of an abundance of caution to ensure system security and data confidentiality, the ISO did not immediately release resource-specific outage information. After legal and operational review, the ISO is providing the background information and data on units that were on partial or full outage at any point in time during the intense heat wave of August 13-16. A complete list of all outages during this period is available at http://www.caiso.com/Documents/08132020-08162020-ActiveOutages-Public.xlsx. A fact sheet is also available at http://www.caiso.com/Documents/Aug14-15-OutageFactSheet.pdf, regarding two
units that were specifically referenced in the ISO’s public presentation to the Board of Governors on August 17.
The ISO will be posting a similar spreadsheet identifying units on outage during the heat wave of September 5-7.
The ISO has also provided responses to various questions throughout this event from stakeholders and market participants. A Q&A document of the inquiries and comprehensive answers is available at http://www.caiso.com/Documents/Aug14-15-StakeholderQandA.pdf.
