New Initiative: Frequency Response Phase 2, Call 12/22/16

 

Summary

The California ISO is launching a new stakeholder initiative called Frequency Response Phase 2.  The issue paper has been posted to the ISO website and a stakeholder call is scheduled for December 22, 2016.  Please submit comments on the paper by January 11, 2017.

The ISO has launched a stakeholder initiative called Frequency Response Phase 2 and scheduled a stakeholder call for December 22, 2016 to discuss the issue paper, which is available on the initiative webpage at http://www.caiso.com/Documents/IssuePaper_FrequencyResponsePhase2.pdf.

 

Through this initiative the ISO will evaluate designing a primary frequency response procurement and compensation mechanism to ensure sufficient levels of primary frequency response are provided in response to frequency disturbances. This procurement mechanism would purchase primary frequency response service, which would require automatic provision of additional power to arrest and stabilize frequency within fifty-two seconds.

 

A presentation and agenda will be available by close of business December 20 on the initiative webpage at http://www.caiso.com/informed/Pages/StakeholderProcesses/FrequencyResponsePhase2.aspx.

 

Please submit comments on the issue paper to initiativecomments@caiso.com by close of business January 11, 2017.
