Markets
The day-ahead market runs the day before power is needed, while the Fifteen-minute market runs in fifteen-minute intervals to balance short term demand needs. The real-time market is a spot market where power can be procured to meet demand not covered in day-ahead schedules.
Nodes
Price node (Pnode)
A network node where a physical injection or withdrawal is modeled and where a Locational Marginal Price (LMP) is calculated.
Type - Load or Generation
Load: An end-use device or resource that consumes power. Load should not be confused with demand, which is the measure of power that a load receives or requires.
Generation (Gen): Energy delivered from a generating unit.
Locational Marginal Price (LMP)
The marginal cost ($/MWh) of serving the next increment of demand at that Pnode consistent with existing transmission constraints and the performance characteristics of resources.
Price breakdown
Congestion
A binding transmission constraint to the optimum economic dispatch to meet demand such that the LMP, exclusive of marginal cost of losses, at different locations of the transmission system is not equal.
Loss
The transmission system marginal real power losses that arise from changes in demand at a node which are served by changes in generation at a reference bus.
Marginal energy cost
The component of the Locational Margin Cost that reflects the marginal cost of providing energy from a designated reference location. Nodes share marginal energy cost across their region.
How to use the price map
- Zoom
- Drill into the maps to find specific pricing data by holding the Control key while scrolling to zoom.
- Switch maps
- Change between maps using the tabs labeled "Day-Ahead", "Fifteen-Minute" and "Real-Time".
- Trading date
- Find the trading date, hour and interval above the map.
- Finding nodes
- Search for nodes in the selected market by using the search on the top-right of the map.
- Filter prices
- Filter out Locational Marginal Prices (LMP) by using the slider.
- View details for nodes
- View the LMP price data for a specific node by hovering over the node. More detailed pricing available by pressing the node.
