New ISO markets newsletter has been launched

With the Extended Day-Ahead Market’s (EDAM) successful launch on May 1, interest is growing in how our day-ahead and real-time electricity markets are performing. To keep stakeholders informed, the California ISO is introducing Western Energy Markets Observations, a newsletter covering notable developments across both EDAM and the Western Energy Imbalance Market (WEIM).

The inaugural June 1 issue highlights market performance during the first weeks of EDAM operations. Future editions will be posted to the Western Energy Markets website.

The newsletter is intended to provide timely, bite-sized observations from the ISO’s perspective on how both markets are performing across a range of topics. While there is no set publication schedule, new editions will be posted regularly as the markets’ performance and related issues warrant.

The first edition touched on aspects of EDAM’s initial month of operations, including energy pricing trends, ancillary services, early cost signals for the new Imbalance Reserve product, and updates on key market design issues currently under refinement, including congestion revenue allocations and price formation.

Importantly, we want to hear from you. There are two ways to submit questions, both noted in each issue. Market participants can submit inquiries through the Customer Inquiry, Dispute and Information (CIDI) system. Participants without CIDI access may submit questions via our Contact Us page.
