Department of Market Monitoring 2024 Q1 Market Issues and Performance Report posted, call on 10/17/24

The California ISO Department of Market Monitoring has published the 2024 First Quarter Report on Market Issues and Performance and has scheduled a stakeholder web conference on Oct. 17, 2024 to discuss reported analysis and findings.

The report covers market results for the period from January to March 2024. Gas prices were down significantly compared to the same quarter of 2023. This resulted in much lower system marginal energy prices across the California ISO and Western Energy Imbalance Market. A severe cold weather event in mid-January raised prices in northern Western Energy Imbalance Market areas compared to the rest of the system. The report includes analysis of the use of the mosaic quantile regression method for calculating the uncertainty components of the residual unit commitment load adjustments, flexible ramping product requirements, and resource sufficiency evaluation requirements.
