MarketsDepartment of Market Monitoring 2024 Q3 Report on Western Energy Imbalance Market Resource Sufficiency Evaluation Metrics posted
The California ISO Department of Market Monitoring (DMM) has posted the Western Energy Imbalance Market Resource Sufficiency Evaluation Metrics Report covering Q3 2024, providing information and analysis about resource sufficiency evaluation performance, accuracy, impacts, and enhancements during the third quarter of 2024.
As part of the Western Energy Imbalance Market (WEIM) design, each balancing area is subject to a resource sufficiency evaluation (RSE). The evaluation is performed prior to each hour to ensure that generation capacity and flexibility in each area is sufficient without relying on transfers from other WEIM balancing areas. Among other topics, this report includes an overview of:
- Phase 2 (track 2) of resource sufficiency evaluation enhancements that were fully implemented on July 1, 2024;
- Improvements implemented for determining the group of balancing areas that pass the resource sufficiency evaluation in advance of regressions performed to calculate this group’s uncertainty needs;
- Changes to the sampling method for calculating uncertainty; and
- Additional analysis on assistance energy transfers.
Related analysis is provided in previous monthly and quarterly reports covering the WEIM Resource Sufficiency Evaluation.
