PRC-029-1 R4 Exemption Requests: Notifications to CAISO as Planning Coordinator

The California ISO (ISO) is providing process information for Generator Owners to submit notifications to the ISO, as the Planning Coordinator, as required by North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability Standard PRC-029-1 Requirement 4.

PRC-029-1 R4 Hardware Limitation Notifications

Generator Owners subject to Requirement R4 must provide the ISO, as the Planning Coordinator, the applicable information required by the standard, including:

• R4.2: A copy of the applicable information gathered under Requirement R4.1, excluding proprietary manufacturer information, within the timeframe specified in PRC-029-1.
• R4.2.2: A copy of the Compliance Enforcement Authority (CEA) acceptance of the hardware limitation within 90 days of receipt.
• R4.3: A Generator Owner with a previously accepted limitation that replaces the hardware causing the limitation must communicate the hardware change to the ISO, as the Planning Coordinator, within 90 days of the hardware change. 

Submissions related to Requirements 4.2, 4.2.2, and 4.3 should be sent to GridModelingData@caiso.com and include “PRC-029-1 R4” in the subject line of the communication.

Generator Facility Hardware Updates 

If replacement of hardware associated with an accepted PRC-029-1 R4 limitation also constitutes a material modification as defined in Section 6 of the Generator Management Business Practice Manual, the Generator Owner must also submit the modification to the ISO’s Queue Management through a written request. Requests must include the completed Modification Request Form and applicable deposit, which is available on the ISO's Queue management webpage.
