Governance and committees MarketsWEM Nominating Committee begins its 2025 process; updated member list posted
The California ISO announces that the Western Energy Markets (WEM) Nominating Committee has begun its process to nominate a slate of candidates for WEM Governing Body seats with terms scheduled to expire in 2025. An updated list of WEM Nominating Committee members has been posted to the WEM Governance overview webpage and reflects some new sector representatives.
According to the Selection Policy for the WEM Governing Body, the Nominating Committee must convene no less than 100 days prior to the scheduled expiration of any WEM Governing Body member’s term, to begin the process of identifying potential candidates for the seat.
The Nominating Committee shall nominate a slate with one nominee for each seat on the Governing Body for which the term is scheduled to expire. The Nominating Committee must take the following steps to identify candidates to bring to the WEM Governing Body for approval in a general session meeting:
Determine if eligible WEM Governing Body members whose terms are scheduled to expire have expressed a desire to be nominated for a new term and, if so, decide whether to re-nominate the departing members without interviewing other candidates.
If the Nominating Committee does not decide to proceed in this manner, then it should ask the Executive Search Firm to identify at least two qualified candidates to interview in addition to the interested sitting Member.
For positions that are otherwise vacant, the Nominating Committee will utilize an Executive Search Firm to identify at least two qualified candidates to interview. (See Nominating Committee Guidelines).
Terms for WEM Governing Body members John Prescott and Andrew Campbell are scheduled to expire on June 30, 2025. According to the Charter for WEM Governance, Members may serve a maximum of three terms, excluding any term that is less than three years. Member Prescott, first appointed to serve on the WEM Governing Body starting July 1, 2016, is not eligible for re-appointment. Member Campbell has expressed interest in being re-nominated to the WEM Governing Body.
The Nominating Committee will work with an executive search firm to develop a position specification and nominate a slate of two candidates to the WEM Governing Body. Additional information, including a position specification and instructions on how to nominate a candidate, including by self-nomination, will be posted to the WEM governance webpage in the coming weeks.
