Department of Market Monitoring: 2026 Q1 Report on Market Issues and Performance posted, meeting on 9/17/26

The California ISO (ISO) Department of Market Monitoring has posted the 2026 First Quarter Report on Market Issues and Performance on the Annual and quarterly reports webpage, and has scheduled a stakeholder meeting on Sep. 17, 2026, to discuss reported analysis and findings.

The report covers market results for the period from January to March 2026. Prices across the Western Energy Imbalance Market (WEIM) averaged $24/MWh, down 35 percent compared to the first quarter of 2025 due to lower natural gas prices and increased renewable energy production. Hydro production in the Pacific Northwest region increased by an average of 4,800 MW compared to Q1 2025, contributing to increased exports from the Pacific Northwest into California.
