PlanningISO Planning Standards Update: Issue paper posted, call on 7/27/26
The California ISO (ISO) will hold a public stakeholder call on July 27, 2026, to discuss the Issue Paper for the ISO Planning Standards Update.
The ISO is proposing updates to its Planning Standards, which complement North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) reliability requirements and support the secure and reliable development of the transmission system. The proposed changes include updates to the Voltage Standard to maintain alignment with current requirements, clarification of planning criteria related to new transmission and involuntary load interruption, the addition of supplemental criteria associated with NERC FAC-014-3 Requirement R6, and a review of generation loss criteria under contingency conditions.
The issue paper is available on the 2026 ISO Planning Standards Update initiative webpage. The presentation will be available prior to the call on the same webpage.
The meeting will be recorded, and the video will be posted following the meeting. The recording is provided for informational and convenience purposes only, and any related transcriptions may not be reprinted without the ISO’s permission.
Please submit written comments on the Issue Paper and July 27 meeting discussion by end of day Aug. 10, 2026, through the ISO’s commenting tool using the link on the initiative webpage.
